The Colorado Avalanche enter the expansion draft with the first overall pick, and the entry draft with the second overall pick in the first round but the first selection in rounds two through seven. Gm Gallant and his scouting staff have worked a lot to make sure the team brings in the best 7 players with the draft picks they currently have at the draft, “we have a long list of guys that will help the team. Now comes the issues of only being able to bring in 7, honestly I’d love to bring in more but we want the best guys available as well. At this point I don’t think we will be trading the second overall pick down very far if we do, I would not move out of the top seven at this point, with other picks I could see moving down further especially when it comes to fourth round and later, at that point we feel that we have a good enough list that two players could help us more then one or potentially we could look into having a big draft next year as we really need to add to our empty prospect pool.”

When it comes to the expansion draft, which takes place a week after the finals are done, meaning the draft will take place soon, the Avalanche hold the first pick and have looked at every prospective option. “Obviously we won’t get Crosby, he’s going to be a protected player, and while we may not get any franchise corner stone piece we could get a good complimentary player that has high value to the organization. We want our first pick to be someone fans can associate with and have as the backbone as the franchise moving forward, whether that’s as a gritty bottom six fighter or a top six complimentary player.”

Gm Gallant would not address any specific names at the time of the interview. Gallant wants it known that the franchise name will come in within the next month and hat fans should be getting as excited as he is.
