Now put your hands on the SHL rulebook. Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?  Say I do!

Answer : You’re not the boss of me! I do!

SL : Good!

Please tell us your real first name and where do you live right now?

Answer: Jamie, Victoria BC.

SL : Love Victoria! Beautiful town! The Island of Vancouver is full of great natural beauty!

Is the song Jamie Got A Gun from Aerosmith about you?

Jamie Answer: I’ve been demanding loyalties but they keep ignoring me!

SL : Those greedy record labels!

When and how did you first find out about the SHL? According to Philly Chris, you are a veteran.

Jamie Answer: I knew Chris from another league when this was coming together and although been fhl simming since 90s never have had a chance to be the Oilers!

SL : What was like before FHL (the simulator) got created? Please tell me more! Internet wasn’t really a big thing back in 90s either.

Jamie Answer: FHL was out late 90s, can’t recall specific year. Before that there were interesting things on the internet like managing your own wrestler with matchups through the week and trying to build rep and get wins and able to build your characters ratings. But early FHL had a lot of (all even?) FHL leagues with ratings based on their FHL performance in the early days. Once you broke the code of playing top rated players with young players, those young players became stars for the next season, it lacked the connection to NHL that I find fun.

SL: Ok Thanks!

I grew up in the 80s where the Islanders and Oilers were trading Cup championships. Is that why you picked the Oilers? For Wayne and company.

Jamie Answer : Originally from Northern Alberta, some of earliest childhood memories was cheering for Gretzky etc with family. Id have been 2 for first cup, so not much knowledge of the Isles, but an Oilers fan base from day 1. Been die hard fan since.

You have an impressive amount of good young kids coming up. Any plan on trading a couple to speed up the rebuilding process?

Jamie Answer: Once the core is ready to compete, then I’ll look to trade the depth for more established players. Until then, no rush.

SL : The patience approach! Good man!

Who is your favorite player of all time?

Jamie Answer: Gretzky, Dougie Weight 2nd.

SL: Doug Weight was great too!

Who is the person you would like to meet (dead or alive)? Feel free to explain!

Jamie Answer: I find that a tough question! I think I’d want to be someone that could have fun with over some intellectual that’d probably make me just feel like I have no place chatting with them. I’m thinking Dave Grohl, Seth Rogen, Willie Nelson, something like that would be fun.

SL : Are you a country music fan? Not that Grohl is in country music but more about Nelson.

Jamie answer: I just thought he might be fun to smoke weed with and have some good chats. I’m not a country fan, but a Willie fan. My music leans more hard rock/metal/alternative/punk. Foo Fighters I do love.

SL: I see the Grohl connection here!

Question : If you could catch a GM asleep and steal one of his players, who would that be? Not that you really need anything right now!

Jamie Answer: I’d like to say McDavid but think I learned my lesson as started franchise with Hall, thinking would have best Oiler/player in league and even added Ovechkin at all costs as thought having two of my favorites dominate would work out. It didn’t. I don’t even like Hall anymore. So tldr, no one atm.

You get first overall to start a league, which player would you choose?  And why?

Jamie Answer: Right now has to be McDavid. Still young and dominant. Oiler is bonus for sure.

SL: Make sense!

What’s the best way to approach you about a trade request?

Jamie Answer: I like someone coming in with a reasonable offer. If it makes sense ill just take it.

What annoys you when a GM approaches you ?

Jamie Answer: You say not looking to move someone and they ask what you want for them…Bonus points if I do make an offer, only for them to not respond! Mostly I’m pretty easy going and have seen enough terrible offers to not let that sort of thing bother me.

SL : Yeah! You seem to have that West Coast coolness in you!

I know the SHL rulebook is a near perfect work but if there was one rule that you would change or add, what would it be?

Jamie Answer: I recall reading Chris response and I agree on the ufa thoughts. Its a system that strongly benefits the top tier teams to remain top tier and not rely on trading. A more salary driven system allows teams to rebuild quicker and force more trades by top tier teams instead of just buying new toys each year.

SL : I wonder if Chris (and the big cheese) are taking notes from all these good, in depth, answers you guys are providing!

If there was no stupid virus around, and you have an unlimited amount of cash, where would be the first destination you travel into? Could be space!

Jamie Answer: Not space! I love traveling both for history/culture and for chilling on sandy beach. Kauai as a favorite spot probably most likely as next vacation as is easy. Kinda want to do redo Portugual too. Lots of places would like to see. Vietnam, Spain, Croatia a few on to see list. Little trip to Whitehorse likely in April is actual next trip

SL: What do you do in Whitehorse in April? Is that a good time for the Northern Lights?

Jamie Answer: Mostly to stay with couple close friends for few nights. There’s a great nature reserve and tons of amazing hiking/scenary to see. If we get lucky, some Northern Lights, but really best chance is the Winter for that, but I’m not so sure I want to go travel to a place -40 and doesn’t really have any daylight.

SL : I’m with you!

What gets you these days! Sports event, TV Series, your cat, anything?

Jamie Answer: Currently rehab from torn Achilles… floor hockey is my jam otherwise. Toddler takes up a lot of time these days. She’s hilarious and love her to bits! My cats are old and annoying and do demand most of my time that am home. I also do some filmmaking and am writing my next script to hopefully produce 2023.

SL : Anything you did before we could see anywhere?

Jamie Answer:

SL : Cool! Colorful!

Any questions, queries, comments or dark secrets you want to add before we leave?

Jamie Answer: um, yeah, sure! I ‘m going to share a dark secret right now that never have before. I used to start my work day 5am in a gentrified area of town, adjacent to a bit of a shady area. There’s a Tim Horton’s and convenience store as kind of the border between the two. Usually I walk to work. One day after work, an older co-worker, Duane, wants to show off his Mercedes and offers me a ride home so I take him up on it.

The next morning, around 4:45 am in the fall, I’m walking to work, beside the Tim Hortons, about two minutes from the office. I see Duane drive by but then turn to go into the parking lot. He pulls up in front of me and starts waving for me to come over. I wave him on as I don’t need a ride at this point, I’m two minutes away. It’ll take longer for you to get out of that parking lot than me to walk there. He starts waving super aggressively, like insisting type aggressively, so I shrug and think ‘fine’ to myself. I get in the passenger seat.

This man, not Duane (much sleazier looking now that close, but similar balding resemblence), is shocked. I notice he’s holding a very large firm square package (like 6″ sides) wrapped in tin foil with his non waving over hand. He says, “Get the fuck out of my car!” so I quickly get out. I then notice a shady looking character in the parking lot, who he was clearly waving over. As I’m walking away I shout back, “worst drug dealer ever!” and went on with my day. I was kind of too shocked to say right away and then kind of embarressed to share, but there it is!

SL: Crazy story indeed! Could be part of great storyboard!

Thanks a lot for answering all my questions! Now! Who would you like to hear about next and what should be the first question?

Jamie Answer: Evan – Canes and would like to make sure have proper arrangements been made for Foligno’s arrival? We’d like to make sure he’s treated well in Carolina!

SL : Sure ! I’ll ask him!

Jamie being Jamie : Thanks for doing these! They really are great and appreciate reading them. Thanks for having me !

SL : All good! Except from the East Coast boys, everyone has been great!

Just kidding! It’s almost done and I really have a good time doing them!
