After a quiet season’s beginnings, the Blues have made a number of moves that have largely served to build for the future of St. Louis’ defense. After sending recent draft selection Tobias Bjornfot to receive blossoming pointman Jake Bean, the future started to look bright. GM Holden Kenne then took a risk on Travis Dermott of the Toronto Maple Leafs, giving up a promising prospect in Samuel Fagemo. Adding to an existing core of Brendan Guhle and Markus Nutivaara, the Blues picked up Marco Scandella on waivers.

Today, the Blues sent agile defenseman Neal Pionk to the Buffalo Sabres in return for the highly anticipated Cal Foote. Foote, 6’4”and 220lbs, is expected to make his NHL debut within the next two seasons. He is projected as a shutdown, two-way defenseman who can play big minutes night in and out.

The Blues will next look to upgrade their forwards through the draft and free agency.
